Moving SCSI Drive from NCR to Adeptec Controller
I believe it comes down to the sym53c875 SCSI controller in the machine. When I boot the new kernel, it will freeze after initializing the SCSI card while trying to identify what SCSI disks are present. I've tried the sym53c8xx driver, the NCR 53c8xx driver, and the old NCR 53c7,8xx driver.

You can use "mimicry" trick or you can try to manually add new SCSI controller to old system. Manual installation of critical hardware driver to off-line system is work for experienced admins only, but if you study something about .inf files and study content of .inf file of your new adapter, you can get ideas what

SCSI controller question
I had an old 8-bit SCSI controller in an EISA machine, with two SCSI hard driveer (one FAT, and one NTFS). Both have NT installed on them, and both work fine -- albeit slowly. Anyways, I recently purchased a, ISA SCSI-2 controller, which has an auto-config utility. I ran the routine, and everything works fine

Add DVD RAM to existing SCSI controller ?
It is now clear that your SCSI controller is preventing Windows from going into any low power state. The same thing happens if I use an AHA 2930 SCSI controller but not if I use an AHA 2906. I have six drives (excluding the FDD) in this machine so SCSI is almost a must and as stated earlier the AHA 2906 controller
